The purpose of a language analysis is to analyse the language and persuasive techniques employed by an author to persuade the INTENDED READER of their POV (point-of-view)
Now to do that we need to build upon two skills, identifying, summarising the supporting arguments employed by the author and identifying and analysing the language and techniques utilised by the author to argue these points. We also need to be able to apply these skills and construct a written piece of work that communicates our analysis and is representative of our ability to perform the two skills. The language analysis essay is the format we use to express our analysis and the body paragraph is where the crux of the analysis is communicated. The following is a body paragraph structure that can be used to write a comprehensive LA body paragraph.
The Language Analysis Body Paragraph
In each body paragraph you are analysing how language and techniques are employed within one supporting argument to persuade the intended reader. In each body paragraphs you will need to identify a supporting argument used by the author and analyse how techniques and language is employed to deliver that argument. The basic premise and the structure for each body paragraph is very similar you need to.
(1) Outline ONE supporting argument employed by the author. (This is a reason provided by the author to defend their opinion)
(2) Identify how language is used to argue the supporting argument. (You need to identify the example of language, quote its use and analyse how the use of this language would position readers to side with the author)
(3) Identify how persuasive techniques are used to argue the supporting argument. (Again you need to identify the example of a persuasive technique, quote its use and analyse how the technique would position reader to share the authors POV)
In EACH body paragraph you will need identify 3 examples of language or techniques and analyse how the examples position the reader.
Now generally the structure between the body paragraphs stays the same. You ALWAYS need to start by identifying a supporting argument and you always need to analyse techniques and language. Now it would make sense to commence by analysing how the author opens in the 1st BP and close by analysing how the author closes. An easy format would be.
