(18/2) How to write a conclusion in 10 minutes

Overview

Writing a conclusion should be the least stressful part of your Language Analysis experience. You are not demonstrating an understanding here (that's the intro) nor are you analysing in the conclusion (that's the body paragraphs). All you're really doing is placing a neat full stop at the end of your essay so that it seems complete and has come full circle. However the conclusion is non-the-less worth 5 of your 70 marks so it is somewhat important. so lets get into it.

The language analysis conclusion includes three steps...

Step ONE

Restate the author's contention

Step TWO

Outline how the tone has shifted throughout the piece.

Step THREE

Outline how the reader is left feeling

Sample
Throughout the article Giselle Nguyen attempts to persuade her readership that Australia should be making strides to provide a sanctuary to genuine refugees. In employing an impassioned yet logical tone Nguyen encourages her readership of former asylum seekers and families to consider the impact our asylum seeker policy is having on people just like them. Nguyen leaves the reader feeling a sense of sympathy towards asylum seekers and are encouraged to act now to protect their innocence and vulnerability.
